Beekeeping

Some people make their living by farming honey...from honey bees, that is. Right here in Florida there are several main nectar producing plants: gallberry, citrus, tupelo, saw palmetto, melaleuca, Brazilian pepper, and cabbage palm. The scout bees stock up on honey, because they'll need lots of calories for their long journey. Then they set out to find fields of nectar flowers the bees need to produce honey. The scout must fly all the way back to the hive and tell the rest of the bees where the flowers are. Beekeepers, called apiarists, must wear protective clothing, gloves, hats, and face nets to protect them from stings.
